Exploring Away3D in Flex

Tags: ,

picture-1.pngAfter seeing some cool Away3D stuff from Fabrice Clossier, and now seeing some cool Flex 3D stuff going on at Maikel and Arno (thanks for the help!), I also made a sample with Away3D and Flex. If you’ve get a hang of it, it is very easy to do!

VIEW EXAMPLE

It is very interesting to see, that 3D interfaces are growing arround t he internet. It’s very nice we can now experiment with the features of 3D. Hope to add more soon.

Nice! And that grid is really helpful. That can be helpful for other people (read: me) ;-)

[…] I made some adjustments to the example in my previous blogpost. From now on calling it Away3D explorer. It is just really helpful for me to give a better feeling […]

The demo is nice. You have a bug, though: given the orientation of the x and y axes, the z-axis should be positive toward the viewer…remember the right-hand rule for x,y,z coordinate systems.

Also, as a minor suggestion, I’d like to suggest that you change the axis coloring so that the x axis is red, the y axis is green, and the z axis is blue, so that the conventional ordering of x-y-z coordinates corresponds to the conventional ordering of red-green-blue in pixel space. Obviously there isn’t any rule to do that, but the familiar order would have helped me more quickly figure out at a glance which axis is which.

You’re are totally right, twice! When I first started experimenting I just drew the wireframe as a floor, never thinking about where I put it. Also I did think about the colors, by looking at a screenshot of a 3dMAX interface, but I think I switched the colors in the late hours of working. If I just looked better at the interfaces of 3D modeling software! I’m really glad you’re pointing this out. Thank you very much!

This also refreshed my mind: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartesian_coordinate_system

I will change these facts in the next version.
